Curriculum

Architectural Engineer by education, Michele Morganti is Assistant professor at Sapienza University of Rome. In 2013 he obtained a joint PhD Cum Laude from the Barcelona School of Architecture of the UPC Barcelona Tech and the Engineering Faculty of Sapienza University of Rome. Michele is specialized in Building Design and Sustainability of the Built Environment and, since 2014, is Adjunct professor in Building Design for Sustainable Architecture at Sapienza University of Rome. Since 2008 he worked as teaching and research assistant at Sapienza where he has been appointed Independent Subject Expert in the above-mentioned subject. In 2019 and 2020 he has been Postdoctoral Research Fellow of “Territorial Fragility” Excellence Project at Politecnico Milano.

His research focuses on the relation among the built environment, building design and energy performance, with special interests in the existing building stock. He coordinated and led the project “Energy efficiency at urban scale” funded by Sapienza University of Rome (2017-18). Other current research includes environmental design, nature-based solutions, urban morphology and energy performance, self-help retrofitting technologies, public housing maintenance strategies and urban systemic approach for flooding events. Michele has been awarded the Special doctoral award by UPC Barcelona Tech for the PhD thesis “Sustainable Density” and the Best young researcher publication of 2018 by Politecnico di Milano for the book “Ambiente costruito mediterraneo: forma, densità, energia”. In addition, Michele has been awarded with the first price of the 21st International Workshop Les Ateliers d’etè de Cergy-Pontoise “The river’s Confluence: a new Gate for Paris” and has obtained a grant from the Accademia dei Lincei for the “Advanced Training Seminar/Workshop on Solar Thermal Electricity” promoted by EMAN, GID, Hassan II Academy of Science and CTAER.

His experience in environmental and building design consultancy included, among others, the role of Junior and Senior Consultant for important public works at Labics architecture firm (Maria Claudia Clemente and Francesco Isidori) and SAC Società Appalti Costruzioni. The work “Sala polivalente e limite murato di Piazza Mayer-Ross a Sora (FR)” has been awarded with the Internationa Prize Arch&Stone’13 promoted by the Consorzio Produttori Marmo Botticino Classico (with MCM architecture firm). He has more than 40 publications to his credit, among which journal articles, international conference proceedings and book chapters.
